F1 hybrid seeds refers to the selective breeding of a plant by cross pollinating two different parent plants. They are largely annual and vegetable cultivars and are bred to be disease resistant and able to overcome adverse growing conditions. (In genetics, the term is an abbreviation for Filial 1 – literally 'first children'). 

Whilst the vegetables and flowers from F1 seed are uniform and generally successful, any seeds saved from F1 hybrid plants will not produce plants that are true to the parent type, unlike open-pollinated varieties.
