Description

Zinnia 'Zahara Sunburst' as its name suggests will brighten any garden with its large red and yellow bicolour blooms.

They are low maintenance and thrive in sunny, hot, dry conditions making them ideal for pots, containers, beds, borders where they will attract plenty of bees and butterflies.

When to sow Indoors March to April, outdoors in May.
Where to sow Sow indoors in moist compost filled pots or trays 0.5cm (1/4in) deep and cover the seeds with a very fine sprinkling of compost or vermiculite. Place in a warm position (temperature of  20-23°C (68-75°F) is ideal).
Sow direct outdoors in flowering position, 0.5cm (1/4in) deep.
What to do next For seeds sown indoors , when seedlings are large enough to handle and all risk of frost has passed, acclimatise them to outdoor conditions over 7 to 10 days. Then transplant into final growing position planting them 30cm (12in) apart. 
Take care not to damage the root system when transplanting the seedlings.
Thin the seedlings sown direct outdoors out so they are 30cm (12in) apart. Carefully replant thinned plants to fill any gaps.
Water well until plants are established. 
  Deadhead to prolong flowering and encourage new flower buds. 
Flowering period July to October.
Handy tips Zinnias make terrific cut flowers, and cutting the flowers encourages new blooms.
Cut stems before the flower is open for cut flowers.
Uses Zinnias can be gown in pots and containers or added to mixed borders, Blooms can be cut and used in small floral bouquets or arrangements.
