Description

Malaga Violet has striking purple skin with contrasting crisp white flesh. It produces mild peppery roots which stay firm and crisp over a long season. Malaga Violet is very easy to grow and are ready to harvest in 4-5 weeks.

When to Sow March to September.
Where to sow Sow thinly in shallow drills 1.5cm (1/2in) deep direct in the growing position, with 15cm (6in) between rows either in a well prepared seed bed or in a pot or container.
Sow sucessionally every 2 to 3 weeks to have a continuous supply through summer and early autumn.
Protect early sowings with either a cloche or fleece from frosts.
What to do Next Thin seedlings as required, leaving 5cm (2in) between each plant. Keep well watered, especially in dry periods and weed free.
Harvest April to October.
Handy Tips As a catch crop, radishes can be grown in the space between longer maturing vegetables such as Brassicas to maximise usage of your plot.
To avoid the situation where too many radishes are ready to harvest at once, only sow short rows each time.
For best texture and flavour pick roots when they are still small and young.
Companion Planting Good Companions : Beans, beets, cabbage, carrots, corn, cucumber, lettuce, parsnip, peas, spinach, squash and tomato
Nutritional Information Rich in vitamin C and potassium.
Serving Suggestion Great as a snack served whole with dips or sliced in a salad. Try them grated in coleslaw.
