Description

Aster Carpet Mixed is a dwarf variety which produces masses of double chrysanthemum type flowers in a range of pastel and bright colours. Their compact size makes them excellent for beds and borders as well as container gardening.

Most Asters in the UK are hardy perennials, however they are not happy in wet soil in a UK winter. This variety is an annual, ideal for summer bedding and perfect for pots or cut flowers.

Aster attracts bees and butterflies and is included on the RHS Perfect for Pollinators list.

When to sow Indoors Feb to April or outdoors April to May
Sow indoors thinly in compost filled pots or trays, 0.5cm (¼in) deep and cover the seeds with a very fine sprinkling of compost or vermiculite. Place in a warm position (temperature of 15-20°C (60-68°F) is ideal).
Where to sow Sow direct where they are to flower 0.5cm (¼in) deep, into finely-prepared, well-drained soil, which has already been watered.
What to do next For seeds sown indoors, when seedlings are large enough to handle and all risk of frost has passed, acclimatise indoor raised seedlings to outdoor conditions over 7 to 10 days. Then transplant into final growing position planting them 20cm (8in) apart.

Deadhead to prolong flowering and encourage new flower buds.
Flowering period June to October
Uses Ideal for beds and borders, pots, containers and window boxes.
