Description
Scabiosa Atropurpurea 'Red' is a long flowering Scabiosa, great for the back of a border and also makes a good cut flower. The flowers are a bright red with with contrasting white stigmas that grow to around 90cm.
Great for adding height to beds and borders and bees and butterflies will love them too.
| When to sow | Sow indoors Jan to April and August to September. | 
| Where to sow | Sow indoors in moist compost filled pots or trays 0.5cm (1/4in) deep and cover the seeds with a very fine sprinkling of compost or vermiculite. Place in a warm position (temperature of 15-20°C (60-68°F) is ideal). | 
| What to do next | When seedlings are large enough to handle and all risk of frost has passed, acclimatise them to outdoor conditions over 7 to 10 days. Then transplant into final growing position planting them 30cm (12in) apart. | 
| Water well until plants are established. | |
| Handy tips | Deadhead to prolong flowering and encourage new flower buds. |
