| When to sow | February to May (February to March inside and April to May outside) |
| Where to Sow | Sunflowers need full sun (6-8 hours of direct sunlight per day - the more the better if you are trying to grow them to their maximum potential) and are best sown direct where they are to flower. |
| For earlier blooms sow indoors in pots, 1.5cm (3/4in) deep and keep at 13 to 18°C (55 to 65°F) until after germination. | |
| Sow outdoors direct, either in pots or in a flower bed, 1.5cm (3/4in) deep and 30cm (12in) apart. | |
| What to do Next | When the risk of frost has passed, transplant seedlings sown indoors to final flowering position after hardening off for 7 to 10 days. |
| Protect young plants from slugs with a cloche. | |
| Water the plants regularly especially during dry periods. | |
