Description
Aubrieta 'Cascade Purple' is a mat forming, low growing evergreen perennial to about 10cm high which will create a bold spring display of purple cascading flowers especially if grown over a wall, raised bed or in a alpine rockery.
When to sow | Sow indoors in March to May or September to October |
Where to sow | Sow indoors on the surface of moist compost filled pots or trays and cover with a light sprinkling of compost or vermiculite. Place in a warm, light position (temperature of 18 to 24°C (64 to 75°F) is ideal). |
What to do next | When seedlings sown indoors are large enough to handle, transplant into 7.5cm (3in) pots or trays and grow on in cooler conditions. |
When all risk of frost has passed, acclimatise indoor raised seedlings to outdoor conditions over 7 to 10 days. Then transplant into final growing position planting them 40cm (16in) apart.
Water well until plants are established.
Cutting the plants back hard after they have finished flowering will help keep them bushy - and may encourage a second flush of flowers.
Flowering period | March to June |
Uses | Ground Cover, Cottage Gardens, Alpine & Rockery, Wildlife and Low Maintenance Garden |
Height | 10cm (4in) |
Spread | 40cm (16in) |
